I looked at a lot of scanners, ranging in price from under $100 to over $12,000 (yes you read that right). I've been doing most of my own automotive work for a bit over 50 years so I know what I'm comfortable trying and what I'd rather leave to a shop. I looked at the BMW software, but that has far more functionality than what I need. Foxwell and Autel seem to be recommended on a lot of the BMW forums and tuning sites so I started paying more attention to those in my research. I wanted to be able to read and reset trouble codes, reset the oil life timer, and reset battery parameters when the time comes to replace the battery. That last one eliminated a lot of models from consideration. There are so many models with mostly the same functions that really not much sets any of them apart. So, why did I choose this one? Well, it's in my price range, it's fairly compact, it doesn't have Bluetooth, which I don't need. I'm quite comfortable using the cable for connecting to the car. Also, t

Do be warned, if you by this, Amazon will make you sign for the package. I was depending on getting this package at a certain time, and did not receive it as a result of me not being home to sign for it. This was very frustrating. I am a Nurse and work chaotic hours. If the tool would have been delivered, I would have known not to drive my car to work resulting in me getting stranded. I implore Amazon to stop this practice unless a customer explicitly wants this. I had to call out of work just to wait all day for the package to come so I could sign for it. I am a on-call Nurse. This was not good.

A zip lock plastic bag was where I stored it with the little manual. This case was being offered along with the BT100 as a package deal, so I ordered it separately. It's actually made for a larger Foxwell device and the BT100 fits with a lot of room left over. It would be nice if they offered a similar smaller case, but having a case bigger than needed is definitely better than having a case that is too small.

It worked to read the codes but when it came to programing and calibrating my abs module this scanner couldn't do it. Just kept saying DSC calibration failed. Took car to a bmw shop and they was able to perform the tasks and cleared all the warning light. This was the reason I bought this tool and it failed. So I still had to pay a large amount to program the DSC unit. I do not recommend this if you have abs issues. Not sure if this scanner will do any of the other things it claims to be able to do.

Update March 2, 2026: Foxwell responded and showed me where the coolant ventilation function is located. I raised my rating. I bought this for my 2018 X5 E-40 so that I could change the coolant pump and initiate the coolant pump service to air free the system. This unit does not have that capability. I’m gonna email the manufacturer to see if perhaps I’m missing it but otherwise I plan to return it. It’s a pretty important function, especially on the X5 because they’re known to have a coolant pump failure between 80 and 100,000 miles

In regards to durability I would say no. I needed this specifically for coding and that was not available via this. Battery registration and other service resets are able to be done with this. For the value the Elite model of the Foxwell is 40-60 dollars cheaper and does the exact same functions. More durable than this at a better cost. I would recommend that over this one
