Professional smoke leak detector with built-in air pump. Pinpoint vacuum, intake, and EVAP leaks in minutes — no external compressor needed.
Amazon price checked Jun 14, 2026
The FOXWELL ST201 smoke leak detector finds vacuum, intake, and EVAP leaks using an integrated air pump — no shop compressor required.
Whether you are troubleshooting a check engine light, preparing for an emissions test, or performing scheduled maintenance, the ST201 gives you the module access and service functions you need without booking a dealer appointment. On-screen menus walk you through each step, and stored scan reports help you track repairs over time.
The ST201 helps you identify root causes faster by reading fault codes, live sensor values, and module status across the systems it supports:
Connect the ST201 to a 12V power source and attach the smoke output hose to a capped intake or EVAP test point. The built-in pump produces visible vapor — watch for smoke escaping at cracked hoses, loose clamps, or failed seals. Repair the leak, clear related codes, and re-test to confirm the EVAP or vacuum fault is resolved.
12V vehicle systems. Use with appropriate adapter caps for your intake or EVAP test point.
Always verify that your exact year, make, model, and engine combination is supported before purchase — especially for service resets, bi-directional tests, and brand-specific modules. OBD2 port location is typically under the driver-side dashboard on U.S. vehicles from 1996 onward.
Shops chasing EVAP codes, boost leaks, and vacuum-related idle issues.
If you regularly work on your own vehicles, run a small repair shop, or buy used cars to flip, the ST201 pays for itself quickly compared to per-visit dealer diagnostics.
FOXWELL has built a reputation for professional-grade automotive diagnostics at a fraction of dealer scan-tool prices. Unlike many subscription-based tools, FOXWELL scanners include free or lifetime firmware updates, clear on-screen DTC definitions, and responsive customer support — making them a practical choice for home garages and independent shops alike.
Standalone 12V power. N/A. Keep firmware current to maintain the widest vehicle coverage and access to newly added service functions.

Product worked great and worked fast, very easy set up and if you had a leak you would know immediately. The only thing is the I though was a downside was you have to go to the store and buy mineral oil, and it doesnt mention if it has included but, the product itself was excellent and worked great.

I purchased last year but didn't end up using at that time due to change in plans, unfortunately today I had a need/use for it , only to find that it doesn't work right out of the box ? apparently I should have tried it out at the time I received it! Oh well , to late now , another piece of amazon garbage !

Quickly produces smoke and has enough pressure to drive the smoke the entire length of the car in only 20-30 seconds. Able to identify the evap leak in under two minutes, which because of the location I likely would never have found via only a visual inspection.

It will generate smoke that lingers and if you correctly plug up the obvious vacuum ports on your intake and feed the smoke in, then that smoke is going to come out all the non-obvious places. I was a little disconcerted to see smoke come out of the bearings for the throttle shaft, but that will indeed happen if you leave it long enough to build up positive pressure in the manifold because I managed to plug up all the actual leaks. So be sure to use common sense while interpreting your results. -CTH

I had never used a smoke machine before, but this little unit made it easy. It took a minute or so, but sure enough smoke came wafting up from behind the bumper. I had to take off the bumper to see the problem… the nuts securing the piping from the turbocharger to the intercooler had worked loose. Easy fix, but you have to know where to look. This machine did the trick. Highly recommend, and a great value. Very easy to set up and use. Only ding is the poor English in the user’s manual, but the info you need is there and clear enough.
